Designing the Ideal Home Office: How To

In the 21st century, more and more of America's office workers are finding themselves working less from the office, and working from home more frequently. If you are one of the employees in the world with the ability to do this, consider yourself very lucky. This is a great privilege for many employees, but while it may be very convenient, working from home is not without its many distractions. Working from home can easily become a less productive space than being at work as the comforts and luxuries of working from home can easily take you away from what you need to be focusing on.  Creating the perfect space to be as productive as possible is the key to a functional home office and there are many contributing factors to this kind of space.

The first thing you need to do for your home office creation is to choose the perfect spot in your house that is comfortable, yet will allow you to complete an adequate amount of work with minimal distractions. Make sure however that you do not cram yourself into a tiny space. While an attic may be a nice, secluded place that allows you to be away from distractions, it may not be the best option as far as comfort is concerned. Do you do good work in the kitchen? This is typically a very central point of a home, much like a home base for everything. This can be a great place to be productive, but make sure you won't be distracted with other non-work related tasks that may present themselves in that space. Make sure you factor in comfort with functionality to select the perfect space for your home office.

One of the biggest keys to a perfect home office is the comfort factor. Working from home gives you the great advantage of working in a more comfortable setting than going into the office. One of the best ways to keep the comfort in your home office is buy investing in a high quality office chair that is very ergonomically friendly. You're going to many hours in this chair and unless you have gone the route of a standing desk, a comfortable office chair is one of the best investments you can make for your home office.

Another great way to create a comfortable home office space is by bringing in as much nature as you can to the area. Giving yourself a view with natural light can boost your mood in a big way and can help reduce eye strain and headaches. Bringing in real plants into your home office space will also provide some extra fresh oxygen.

If you have the ability to work from home, creating the perfect home office is key to comfort and function. Follow some of these tips and you will have a great home office to enjoy.

Why You Should Have a Mesh Office Chair

A comfortable office chair is arguably the most important piece of furniture to anyone working in an office job. The quality of your office chair can dictate your mood throughout the day and even the amount of energy you have after the work day. There are many schools of thought when it comes to what kind of office chair you should invest in, but research shows that one of the better options available to office workers, in terms of material, is a mesh office chair.  Other the many ergonomically friendly designs that these chairs typically come in, there are a plethora of other benefits to selecting a mesh office chair.

One of the biggest and best advantages to a mesh office chair is the ventilation that it provides. If you are sitting in an office chair all day long up against the back of the chair, chances are you will begin to sweat and a damp back is hardly the most comfortable situation to be in when you still have four or five hours left on your shift. A mesh office chair will provide more breathability and ventilation for you all day which will keep you comfortable and dry all day long.

With the added ventilation and breathability from a mesh office chair, this will also lead to less maintenance on the chair. The drier and more comfortable the office worker is, the less sweat will sink into the upholstery which can lead to odor, stains, and overall damage that will require a replacement chair in a much quicker amount of time than a mesh chair. This also keeps the chair in a much cleaner and sanitary state, something that many office workers value in their workspace.

Another great advantage of going the route of a mesh chair for your office is the support you receive from them. Many of these chairs, such as the office star deluxe matrex mesh office chair are designed more ergonomically friendly than a leather chair or some other kind of synthetic upholstery, giving you the best possible chair for your needs. With the different design and function options that mesh office chairs provide, such as the adjustable backrests, rotation ability, a mesh office chair provides the best overall form and function for office chairs on the market.

If you are shopping around for an office chair upgrade, there is a good chance that a mesh office chair is the perfect option for you. From design, function, and durability, a mesh chair is the best overall office chair for many office worker's needs.

How To Choose the Right Ergonomic Chair

In the 21st century of office design and functionality, ergonomics reigns supreme from chairs, keyboards, desks, and everything in between. With so many people around the world working in office jobs, sitting has become part of our day-to-day lifestyle in the workplace.  When you are sitting for eight to nine hours a day, five to six days a week, sitting in the proper position becomes crucial to your health over a long period of time.

Sometimes however, it can be difficult to be aware of your sitting position week after week as there is only so much you can do on your own.  This is where selecting the proper ergonomic chair comes into the equation as the right chair can do wonders for you day-to-day comfort and healthy, as well as the overall comfort and happiness.

So what exactly is ergonomics and what goes into designing an ergonomic chair? You may be asking yourself this question as find yourself out shopping for your office furniture purchase. One of the biggest benefits of an ergonomic office chair is the proper alignment it places your spine in which will reduce the amount of stress and pain your will feel on your back over an extended period of time. There are many important factors that go into designing the proper ergonomic chair, from seat height, width and depth, lumbar support, and the backrest.

In the category of seat height, an ergonomic chair should be easily adjustable and at the proper height, the person sitting in the chair should have their feet flat on the floor with their thighs parallel to the ground, and their arms parallel to the height of the desk as to reduce strain on the wrists when in the typing position. As far as the size of the seat itself, the standard with will be a bout 17-20 inches and there should be about 2 inches between the knees and the front edge of the seat when you factor in the proper depth of the seat.

The backrest of a proper ergonomic chair is incredibly important as it will be a determining factor in what shape you back is in on a day-to-day basis and in the long run of your health. The backrest should be anywhere from 12 to 19 inches wide and if it is not connected to the seat, should be adjustable in both height and angle. The natural curve of the spine should be well supported by the backrest to avoid lingering back pains and injuries.

If you are sitting in an office chair all day, selecting the correct ergonomic chair is an important purchase for your long term health and happiness. Shop around and make sure you pick the right chair for your needs and wants and you will be a happier worker.

Why You Should Have a Standing Desk

Ergonomics in the office are one of the hottest topics of conversation in office worker health as obesity is one of the leading health problems in America. With so many Americans holding office jobs that require them to be in front of a computer for eight or nine hours a day, it is very easy to get stuck in a sedentary lifestyle and simply enjoy the comfort of your office chair. If you are looking for an alternative to sitting at your desk all day and harming your health, a standing desk may be the best a healthiest possible option for you for many different reasons.

Did you know a sedentary lifestyle increases the risk of cardiovascular disease? According to a study done by the Mayo Clinic, for people who sit most of the day, their risk of heart attack is about the same as smoking. That is a very scary statistic, but one that can easily be combated through alternative options. A standing desk is arguably the best route to go if you are done with your days of sitting. While standing all day still probably isn't the best option for your health, a stand/sit desk that is adjustable to give yourself the option to alternate throughout the day will allow you to rest a bit, while also burning tons more calories and keeping you healthier.

Sitting for prolonged periods of time can also put you at a higher risk for Type 2 diabetes. The sedentary lifestyle from sitting all day long has shown to reduce the regulation of proper glucose levels in the bloodstream, which can increase your chances of Type 2 diabetes.

A handful of studies have shown that a standing desk can also help reduce your risk of cancer.  Breast and colon cancer seem to be the most affected by a lack of physical activity and a study done in 2011 by Alberta Health Services Cancer Care in Canada showed that sitting potentially leads to 49,000 cases of breast cancer and 43,000 cases of colon cancer a year. All that being said, a standing desk is an easy option to improve your health.

While sitting is usually the more comfortable position, unfortunately, it is also very slowly killing you.  Having the option to stand at your workspace can greatly improve your health and give you more energy throughout the day.
